Ice Pilots NWT TV Program to Include ARISS School Contact
The first episode of season 5 of the Ice Pilots NWT TV show will include video of an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact last May.
According to the description of the episode, “Cold Start,” the character Mikey “gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he's invited to host a classroom discussion with Commander Chris Hadfield [KC5RNJ/VA3OOG], calling in from the International Space Station.”
Canadian ARISS mentor Steve McFarlane, VE3TBD, says a production team recorded the entire event at the Hay River Public School near Yellowknife.
The History Channel will air the show for the first time Wednesday, October 23, at 10 PM EDT (Thursday, October 24, at 0200 UTC). The program also is available on the History Channel’s Ice Pilots NWT web page.
“All we can hope is that ARISS is well represented and the program receives some well-deserved recognition,” said McFarlane. “I was alerted that this is a reality TV show, and almost anything can be broadcast.” — ARISS
