Charles Wright, W4PED (SK)
ARRL Roanoke Division Assistant Director Charles Wright, W4PED, of North Augusta, South Carolina, passed away June 21. He was 84. An ARRL Life Member, Wright was a founding member of the North Augusta-Belvedere Radio Club (founded in 1955). A US Army Air Corps veteran, he served in the India-Burma theater during World War II. Wright was a graduate of Lynchburg College with a degree in chemistry and math; upon graduation, he was awarded a graduate fellowship to Vanderbilt University by the Atomic Energy Commission where he received his MS in physics and electronics. He retired as a Health Physicist with the E.I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Plant after 34 years of service. In his tenure there, Wright specialized in the field of health physics and was responsible for the design and production of many of the radiation measuring instruments used at SRP during its early operation, as well as many techniques for monitoring personnel radiation exposure. An author of numerous published scientific papers, he was nationally recognized as an expert in these fields. A funeral service for Wright was held June 26.
