Ballots were counted for Director elections in the ARRL’s Atlantic, Delta and Midwest Divisions. While there is no change in the Atlantic or Midwest Divisions, the Delta Division has a new Director.

Thanks to the assistance of the ARRL’s VEC Department, 114 electrical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, earned their Technician licenses.

Kirk Pickering, K4RO, of Pegram, Tennessee, has been named Editor of the National Contest Journal (NCJ).

ARRL Laboratory Manager Ed Hare, W1RFI, was invited to speak at a policy meeting of the HomeGrid Forum, an industry group implementing the ITU-T G.hn BPL standard. Organizers asked him to present information on why spectral protection for Amateur Radio is necessary, why sufficient notch depth is needed to prevent interference and why the successful practices of some parts of the industry to protect Amateur Radio should be made into equally successful regulations.

An ARRL ad hoc committee has been tasked with recommending updates to the ARRL band plans for the amateur bands between 902 MHz and 3.5 GHz.

W1AW, the Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Station, announced its winter operating schedule.

ARRL Southwestern Division Vice Director Marty Woll, N6VI, activated W1AW for the ARRL November SSB Sweepstakes.

The FCC terminated proceedings affecting the Amateur Radio Service, including a 2001 Petition for Rule Making filed by the ARRL regarding the 2300-2305 MHz band.

The ARRL mailed out a Holiday Gift Guide, featuring a selection of ARRL publications and products.

The ARRL, along with news professionals, hosted a webinar geared for those hams who wanted to learn how to appropriately work with the media in an emergency situation.

The ARRL announced its Second Annual Video Contest.

For the 10th year, the ARRL is participating in the federal government’s Combined Federal Campaign.

ARRL HQ volunteer David Kaplan, WA1OUI, has taken over the administration of the ARRL A-1 Operator Club.

Ballots were counted for the Section Manager races in the ARRL’s Kansas, New Mexico, Tennessee and Michigan Sections.

A new QuickStats poll was made available on the ARRL website.

The winner of the QST Cover Plaque Award for November is Allen Baker, KG4JJH, for his article “Build Your Own DSP Speaker.”

The January issue of QST was released to the printer.

Official Observer Desk: ARRL Field and Regulatory Correspondent Chuck Skolaut, K0BOG, handled complaints regarding interference on repeaters in California and Eastern Massachusetts, interference to a maritime net on 14.300 MHz, a County Hunters Net on 14.336 MHz and a YL Net on 14,332 MHz, and a pirate FM broadcast station in Connecticut.
