I think this site does a good job of describing and illustrating the winding of a 49:1 unun. In fact it shows the double core stack and wire gauge you mention...almost like its custom made just for you! LOL https://km1ndy.com/diy-491-unun-impedence-transformer-for-end-fed-half-wave-efhw-antenna/ |

I'm curious to know how this came our for you Ralph. Any success? I agree with John that you should have better luck with LMR400 or similar. You can, and at some point maybe should, go down a rabbit hole exploring things like the velocity factor of the coax used, the reactances, and all that. But to get get the rubber on the road I've often just grabbed some other type of coax, made the same stub, and experimented to see how it performed differently. Trial and error stuff, that can be a fun way to learn. |

Let's discuss what has happened with the 2024 ARRL elections process. I'm sure everyone is well aware by now that the Ethics & Elections committee took action that resulted in the nullification of competition in three races. So how does everyone feel about this? Let's weigh in here. I see lots of conversation in other places but it seems appropriate to discuss this right here on our own forum. For those who aren't aware, here are some links that will fill you in on some of it: https://www.arrl.org/news/candidate-for-arrl-northwestern-division-director-disqualified-tharp-declared-elected https://www.kb6nu.com/the-arrl-elections-this-year-are-a-sham/ |

It takes just one look at all the spam in this unmoderated forum to understand three important things: 1) How the ARRL IT infrastructure was so easily compromised and controlled by someone. 2) That infrastructure continues to be controlled and manipulated by bad actors. 3) The ARRL paid a ransom because they do not care enough to understand their own critical IT needs. Since the ARRL does not let membership make positive changes in a democratic way, maybe we need some sort of revolt? I don't know but perhaps we can discuss it here. If we aren't allowed to discuss such things here then maybe this will provoke enough censorship that they will clean up the rest of the forums. |
