2m/70cm RFI to/from wifi (g or n) | N1IEC | on 6/1/16 |
Update - It's been about two years now. I've been running the 70 cm DVAP within 5 feet of both a Verizon Fios cable modem and an Apple AirPort Extreme and have seen no problems whatsoever.
Even very low power on VHF/UHF sets off smoke detectors | N1IEC | on 6/1/16 |
All three of my HTs that transmit VHF/UHF will cause my combination smoke/CO detectors (AC powered, interconnected) to chirp 3 times. ID-51 - Super low power (.1 W) is safe Vx-8dr - Low power (1.5W) causes issue Old Yeasu - Low power (1.5W) causes issue My IC-7100 also causes the issue except at very low power (<2W) I've seen various comments in different places that ferrite chokes can help if put on the interconnection lines and the power lines to the detectors. In reading some of the articles on the RFI page it looks like I might want to use different chokes than what I picked up at HRO. Does anybody have experience with solving this kind of RFI problem? Opinions? Thanks and 73, Glenn N1IEC |

2m/70cm RFI to/from wifi (g or n) | N1IEC | on 8/1/14 |
Thanks Martin. I'll probably go with the 70cm version, but figured I'd see if anybody knew if one was more susceptible to causing RFI with Wifi than the other.
2m/70cm RFI to/from wifi (g or n) | N1IEC | on 8/1/14 |
I'm considering a DVAP, but it will be in close proximity (perhaps 3-5 feet) with my wireless router (Apple Airport Extreme). The DVAP only puts out 10mW, but I'd like to minimize the chances of interference. Are there advantages/disadvantages to either band (DVAP is available on both 2m and 70cm) in terms of RFI to Wifi? 2m/70cm mobile antenna to clamp on roof rail | N1IEC | on 27/9/13 |
I'm looking at putting my mobile rig into my new vehicle (a Honda Pilot). I have a magmount antenna, but I'm looking for an antenna I can clamp to the roof rail. Do I need a no ground plane antenna? Other suggestions? Thanks and 73, Glenn N1IEC |
