I got a box of torroids of various sizes from an estate sale but have no way of identifying them. Is there some convention or system like there is for resistors? Thanks. Jim Goldring, AK7R |

No, there is no standard convention for color coding ferrite toroids. I'd suggest winding a few turns and measuring the inductance. You can then compare your measurements against calculated values to determine the material. A practiced eye may be able to sort the toroids--but they might all look the same to others I can usually identify song sparrows and house sparrows--but to many--they are indistinguishable from other little brown birds. Wind a few turns and put them on an RX Meter and test at various frequencies. That will tell you where they would be effective for Baluns or just Hash Filters. W9TSQ |
