The Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is a crucial requirement for individuals applying for a Skilled Worker Visa in the UK. This electronic document is issued by a licensed employer who has offered you a job in an eligible occupation.

The Certificate of Sponsorship confirms your employer’s willingness to sponsor your employment in the UK and provides details about your job role, salary, and contract. Without a valid CoS, your visa application cannot proceed.

Employers must meet specific requirements to issue a CoS, including being approved by the UK Home Office as a licensed sponsor. The job offered must also meet eligibility criteria, such as being on the Shortage Occupation List or meeting minimum salary thresholds.

There are two types of CoS: "Defined" and "Undefined." Defined CoS is for applicants applying from outside the UK, while Undefined CoS is for those already in the country. Employers must apply for a CoS allocation each year and justify the need for sponsorship.

If you’re an applicant, ensure your prospective employer has provided all the necessary details in the CoS, as errors can lead to visa delays. For employers, compliance with sponsorship rules is critical to maintain their license.
