How do you find the exact date that you were originally granted your first license? I have misplaced my first station license and don't know the original date Tried the license searches on ARRL and FCC websites, but don't go back very far. My original call (circa 1978?) was WD0GUL. Any ideas?
Thanks, Don Hillier W0DCH

FCC issued most licenses sequentially, though there are exceptions, as my original call was a 2x2 and some of those 2x2s had been issued many years earlier.
You may be able to contact original license holders and have them locate their original licenses so they could tell you what date is on their licenses.

While we now take for granted large quantities of data storage, I remember the first consumer digital cameras having the capacity for only a dozen modest resolution pictures.

They have date information going back to 1986.

As I recall they abandoned the sequential series for your call sign in early 1978.

The best option may be to be patient and hope the license shows up.
