Hi there I'm just getting started with my new radio. When I hook up the RF cable as soon as I start to screw in the outershied to the radio I lose reception. When just the pin is touching I can receive.I bought a new cable thinking it was shorted. But does the same thing.I have a Kenwood Ts 480.Thank you for any suggestions. |

It still sounds like a possible short. Work your way back to the antenna checking for shorts. What antenna are you using and what band are you listening to? |

Does the center pin on the 3 ft coaxial act as a short wave. Then when the outer shield is hooked up it acts as a RF cable?Dont know but it's an interesting way to start out. |

According to the manual that loop antenna has sharp tuning--you may not hear much until you precisely tune it to your receive frequency. |
