The Highlands County Amateur Radio Club is very active in the West Central Florida section. It's membership is made up of both permanent resident hams as well as "snowbirds". We have a linked repeater system with a VHF site in Lake Placid, and a UHF site in Avon Park. This gives us excellent communications coverage throughout the county. We have been holding a " Health and Welfare Net" at 9AM daily since COVID in 2020. We have been adding Echolink so that members can check in to our remotely. We hold monthly meetings with ZOOM for those who can't attaend in person. We have breakfast three times per week at two restaurants at 9AM. The ladies have formed a "73 Group" that has lunch monthly at various restaurants. We participate in both Summer and Winter Field Day and hold FOX Hunts. We have a Picnic each year as well as a Hamfest and Christmas Party. Members actively participate in ARES with Highlands County as well as Skywarn and POTA. We hold classes and have a VEC testing team to administer exams. In 2026 we want to try and get the younger generation interested in ham radio. We also want to strengthen our ties with ARRL by promoting membership through the affiliated club program.
